George Washington did not sleep here, he ordered shoes!
We have been ordering shoes for folks at McMahan Shoes in Spartanburg since 1968. George Washington was ordering shoes in 1780 according to historical records in the Library Of Congress. Pretty amazing! The Continental Army was in disarray when Washington was put in command and basics such as shoes, gunpowder, clothing and many other items were in short supply, and not easy to get either. Orders took a long time to be manufactured and delivered. It also did not help that the thirteen states and Congress were bureaucratically disorganized and ineffectual. Many of the states were operating on their own agendas without paying much attention to the army. Washington had to fight to get anything he needed. Somehow he persevered and, well, you know the rest of the story. Imagine if Washington had a smart phone and Amazon delivery!
